Murderous Shadows

We Walk in Darkness is the fifth book in the Spell Weaver series, but it can be read as a standalone. It has more of an October vibe than a September one, but I have other books planned for promotion in October, so I thought I’d mention it now. It’s available for only $1.99.

Lucas Santos thinks the strangely moving shadows are just his imagination–until one of them tries to kill him. With a long way to go until dawn, will he find a way to survive?

Additional Autumn Chills

I’m currently serializing a Spell Weaver novella, North of Midnight, on Substack. As with We Walk in Darkness, it can be read as a standalone. If you like stories about small towns that aren’t what they appear to be and an assortment of things that go bump in the night, check it out. It’s free to read–just click on the Read-on-Substack button.

  1. A book I loved that I would highly recommend for summer reading is The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. It’s a magical, enchanting tale about a mysterious circus that appears without warning. The rich descriptions, captivating characters, and intricate plot make it perfect for a summer escape!

  2. During the summer I have been reading to my young children the magic tree house books with characters Jack and Annie as they explore the globe and its history. A great way to get them into learning to read!

  3. I would recommend the book Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk. Older and maybe not what some consider summer reading – but a great book anyway.

  4. I had a busy summer traveling – didn’t get to read as much as I wanted. Loved going to Oregon for the first time – it was beautiful!

  5. I have recently read “Dr. Parker’s Patient” by Jasper DeWitt. I really liked the way the story was told and am recommending it to all my friends.

  6. Hi Mr. Hiatt,

I would recommend Paulo Coelho’s The Pilgrimage, a book about self-exploration through the experience of walking the path that thousands upon thousands have walked before.

  7. I would recommend Pachinko by Min Jin Lee! It was so easy to get absorbed into the book. Perfect for a backyard afternoon read.

  8. For my two young kids, I read any children’s book I can. I let them pick out new books at the local library and read to them nearly every night before bedtime.

  9. As a person with ADHD I’d like to recommend a simple book called Hatchet. It’s about a boy and his dog who survive a plane crash and must survive on their own in the wild in which the kid builds a home out of a tree stump and it’s a great read.

  10. I don’t know how I’m going to find the time to read all of these wonderful books.
But I’m going to read as many as possible.

  11. honestly don’t read many books. last one i read was call me by your name and it was something i still can’t forget. yes the movie brought me to it but def added and made the story better for me

  12. I love to read multiple tropes, especially fantasy. One of my favorites is Resisting His Evil by Luxi Crow. It starts off as a girl running away from her family’s actions causing her to get caught and by held prisoner by the man who her father sold her to unbeknownst to her.

  13. If you got kids that are not excited about school, “Tasting History” By Max Miller may pique their interest: Easy recipes with interesting stories and very educational.

  14. One book that I loved is by the late physicist Stephen Hawking, entitled “why we should ask the big questions”. This book, tries to answer some questions about the universe and personally, if you are a fan of science and physics, this is one of the books that you must read if or if.

  15. Sadly I wasn’t able to read whilst waiting on eye surgery and recovery, but I hope to be able to start reading books again very soon. Thank you for the generous giveaway.

  16. I have really enjoyed reading The King of Lies by John Hart. I have read almost all of his books and they have all been great so far.

  17. A book that I recently finished reading is The Heirloomist: 100 Treasures and the Stories they tell by Shana Novak.
I have objects that have been passed down to me that I hold special to me so, reading the stories and seeing the pictures of objects that are important to other people stuck a cord with me.

  18. I loved the book Room by Emma Donoghue. I’m starting the alphabet series with Kinsey Milhone by Sue Grafton. I already read it up to Y and when she died I couldn’t bring myself to read the last book. Now it’s been a while and I thought I would start them over, finishing with Grafton’s last book.

  19. Unfortunately, my kindle white stopped working a few months ago. Ive been saving up to get another one, which i finally be able to do by my next pay check. I miss having it. Thanks for this opportunity,

  20. Any book set in the gothic southern parts of Louisianna where mystics and secrets roam.
Anything from Anne Rice, or Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress series, or Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil come to mind.
